Goal

I’m fundraising for Food Distribution Mutual Aid, Market Box because I believe with creativity and collaboration, our community can build new methods of making sure we’re all taken care of.

At Market Box’s bi-monthly distributions, thousands of pounds of fresh product is sustainably sourced from small Midwest farms within a days freight of Chicago, then over 40 community volunteers package and deliver these goods to the 420 self-identified Black and low-income households we serve across the South Side. In this mutual aid cycle, small food producers can count on regular patronage ($120,000 spent in 2022) and our most vulnerable neighbors can count on regular food drops directly to their door (5,000 deliveries in 2022). This is especially critical for elderly, disabled and immunocompromised folks that find travel challenging.

Also, working with Market Box inspires and heals me everyday because while we can’t rely on the government to provide care and stability, I see first-hand how we as neighbors can rely on each other to show up, fill the gaps, and continuously build towards new systems that prioritize our people.

Will you become a monthly donor at any amount and directly fuel this essential community effort? One time gifts are also dope as every dollar counts :) Your support means so much to so many—thank you!
