Goal
Are you passionate about science? Do you want to see more evidence-based policy coming from the government? Do you want to share your thoughts and concerns about negative perceptions of science in today's media, and the trust in pseudo-science? Do you think science is simply the coolest subject and you want to share that love with the world? If you answered yes, join us at the second annual March for Science! We will have speeches, a march, and a science fair. It's happening on Saturday, April 14, on the Strand.
The goal of science is to better understand all facets of the world in which we live, and use that understanding to improve the lives of all. Scientific research is crucial for medical advances that save lives, creating new technology that makes day to day activities more convenient, and aim to protect iconic landscapes like the Great Barrier Reef. Townsville's March for Science is a rally in solidarity with other marches and rallies held around the world, to call for increased support of science, a cessation of the misuse and abuse of science for political gain, and a demand that leaders use evidence-based science to better the lives of their constituents.
This march is for everyone, because science is FOR everyone and can be conducted by everyone. We will have activities for all age groups and speakers from various fields of science as well as non-scientists.
Funds raised go to support the march in Townsville and other marches around Australia. Costs include Public Liability Insurance, Event fees, equipment rental, etc. Anything you can give will help. All extra funds will be put towards next year's march.
