MZ50

The Mu Zeta Veranda Campaign represents one of the most meaningful opportunities our chapter has ever had. Before we can spend time on that initiative, we need to address something more immediate.

The Mu Zeta 50th Anniversary was a fantastic celebration of our history and our brotherhood. The financial obligations from that event, however, require our attention now. Following the event, Carolina Alumni sent an outstanding invoice of $42,863.52 to the MZ50 planning committee.

Before the event, brothers were responsive to giving appeals and were very benevolent with some giving $5,000 and $10,000. Those contributions, given in the spirit of brotherhood and without restriction, gave the foundation the capacity to make a good-faith payment of $21,000 toward that balance on August 28. We are grateful for every dollar given and every brother who stepped up. The remaining balance is due by September 30, and we are accepting contributions through September 25.

While the foundation was not involved in planning MZ50, we have stepped in because of the time sensitivity and because protecting our relationship with Carolina Alumni matters. A full accounting of the event and how we got here is a conversation worth having, and we will have it. Right now, the priority is making sure Mu Zeta meets its obligations. If the balance is not settled, Mu Zeta’s ability to host future events on campus will be at risk, and that is not a consequence any of us wants to hand to the next generation of brothers.

We also want to be direct about something. Several brothers have already given generously, including those who contributed gifts to MZ50 and those who are actively contributing to the Veranda Campaign. We are not asking those brothers to dig deeper. This call is for brothers who have not yet given, or who are in a position to make an additional contribution without strain. Every dollar helps, and no amount is too small.

This matters beyond the balance due. We are actively pursuing the $100,000 naming opportunity for The Veranda at the Stone Center, part of a broader $350,000 campaign to secure Mu Zeta’s legacy at UNC for generations to come. Before we can credibly pursue that legacy, we need to demonstrate that we honor our commitments. Settling this debt and building that legacy are part of the same story.

The math is straightforward: If 100 brothers give $210, we close this out. If 200 brothers give $105, we also get there. Every dollar contributed by September 25 goes directly toward clearing this balance and moving us forward.

Brothers gave to get us to this point. We are asking you to help us get to the finish line.
