Zakat Donation

And establish prayer and give zakat, and whatever good you put forward for yourselves – you will find it with Allah; surely Allah sees what you do.” —The Holy Qur’an, 2:110

Zakah expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy and for those employed to collect [zakah] and for bringing hearts together [for Islam] and for freeing captives [or slaves] and for those in debt and for the cause of Allah and for the [stranded] traveler – an obligation [imposed] by Allah. And Allah is Knowing and Wise.” —The Holy Qur’an, 9:60

Zakat (Arabic: زكاة‎) is that which purifies your wealth and is a form of alms-giving treated in Islam as a religious obligation or tax, which is mentioned in The Holy Quran next to Salah (prayers).

Zakat is payable at 2.5% of the wealth one possesses above the Nisab*, which is equal to 3 ounces of gold. Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth one must have before they are liable to pay zakat.

*A Nisab is estimated to be approximately $3850 in current time.

Zakat must be calculated on the following assets: gold, silver, cash, savings, investments, rental income, business merchandise and profits, shares, securities, and bonds. Zakat is not paid on wealth used for debt repayment of living expenses such as clothing, food, housing, transportation, education, etc.

MACA collects and distributes Zakat funds to those who are most in need, in accordance with the Islamic guidelines. All donations to MACA are tax-eligible.
