Loyola Street Medicine
Through Loyola Street Medicine, medical students provide direct medical care to those affected by homelessness within the community. Loyola Street Medicine’s patient population disproportionately suffers from acute and chronic illnesses, mental illness, and trauma, and lacks adequate access to primary care providers. Medical students provide treatment, medication, and resources while supporting our patients on their journey to stable housing.
As a student chapter of Chicago Street Medicine, this non-profit conducts weekly “runs” where medical students visit the unhoused on the streets and through pop-up clinics to ensure all patients have access to the medical care they need and deserve. Medical students offer clinical care, including:
Wellness checks
Wound care
Distribution of naloxone to prevent overdose
Preparing and delivering meals and hygiene kits
Through their work, Loyola Street Medicine and Chicago Street Medicine also partner with other community-based organizations, including Housing Forward and The Night Ministry, to provide medical care at a weekly clinic, engage in street outreach at the CTA blue line Forest Park station, and assemble hygiene kits for distribution to unhoused individuals.
All medical students provide clinical care voluntarily and 100% of donations go directly to supporting the patients they serve.
Thank you for your support as we work to provide essential healthcare within our community!
