Twins separated forever in fatal car accident
Hi. My name is Greg Hoy, and the last year has been extremely difficult for my daughter, Lisa.
Devastating multi-vehicle horror crash
On November 1st in 2022, my daughter Lisa, with her twin sister Erica and her boyfriend were returning home on the Port River Expressway in Gillman, South Australia, from an acting agency’s student performance night in which Erica had performed in. They, and particularly Erica, were in very happy spirits due to Erica’s group winning the group performances. Erica was so happy and proud of her performance.
Happiness turns to tragedy in an instant
That happiness was shattered and quickly turned to tragedy when their car was hit from behind by a dangerous driver who fled the accident scene without calling police or offering assistance to those affected.
It was reported that the offending driver was estimated to be travelling between 158km-171km/hour in a 60km zone five seconds prior to impact and high on meth. Multiple vehicles were involved in the accident. The offending driver was later caught by police and charged with multiple offences. A criminal case is ongoing.
Our nightmare begins
On gaining consciousness, the nightmare began, except for Erica who would never have another nightmare, or any kind of dream ever again.
Sadly, one half of the inseparable twin sisters died at the scene of the accident never to be with us again, except in our hearts and memories. Their car was a complete write-off, crushed beyond repair. Sadly, Erica was trapped in the passenger seat and unable to recover from her multiple injuries and passed away at the scene of the accident.
Lisa and the whole Hoy family, relatives and friends are all devastated in losing Erica, who was a kind-hearted and sparkling 26-year-old woman whose life was cut short too soon.
Always smiling, energetic and positive about life, she had many dreams and had a great future in front of her. Our lives, and in particular Lisa’s will never be the same without her.
Seriously injured…. life put on hold
Lisa was taken to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries which have required numerous tests, treatments, and therapies and a significant amount of time out of her life.
She is gradually improving but is still undergoing treatment for the multiple injuries sustained in the accident, and is continuing her rehabilitation, both physical and mental. The grief and sadness of losing her other half will never go away, but hopefully, her physical injuries will all resolve themselves eventually.
Donations needed to help Lisa and Erica
Lisa hates to ask for donations, her pride not wanting to do so. I thought we would be able to manage ongoing costs ourselves within the family, but this is becoming more difficult as time goes by. Getting back to the same health as before the accident is taking Lisa longer than we had hoped.
I am asking for donations to help cover expenses.
My reasons for asking for donations for Lisa and Erica are as follows:
- Unfortunately, the accident insurance payout will not be received until the end of the claim, which may take some time, depending on the progress of Lisa’s injuries. How long this will take and how much the settlement will be is unknown. It may be substantial, or very little. Lisa needs funds to help get by until the insurance claim is finalized.
- Legal fees, medical expenses and lost employment income that are not covered by insurance.
- Motor vehicle accident insurance paid much less than the true market value of the destroyed car. We seek help partially funding the replacement car for Lisa.
- Unfortunately, in South Australia, if someone dies as Erica has, 3rd party insurance will only cover the cost of funeral expenses. Compensation in these circumstances is limited unless the deceased has dependents, which Erica did not. Erica is entitled to no more than the funeral expenses, even though sadly, her future was the most affected as she lost her life. We are seeking donations to help pay for the scattering of Erica’s ashes at sea and any other costs that will be required for us to honour her wishes and any legal costs such as finalizing her estate.
Donations greatly appreciated
Your contributions will not only help give Erica the farewell she wanted but will also offer Lisa some financial relief as we all continue to deal with the grief of losing such a beautiful soul. Any donations received, no matter the size, will be gratefully received with our sincere and heartfelt thanks.
