Goal
The Coronavirus pandemic has continued to imprison and bring enormous tragedy to people around the globe, especially in places like Africa where economies were already struggling. Lock-downs are crippling already crippled and impoverished nations such as Uganda. Millions of people with no source of income are struggling and even dying at much higher rates because of the increased cost of living amidst the endless lockdowns. Government restrictions are also keeping them from being able to move, work or buy basic necessities to keep their families alive through these trying times
The most recent data from the World Bank estimates that upwards of 42% of Ugandans are in extreme poverty (living on less than $1.90 per day). These lockdowns have meant millions of people are unable to go to work and many are now unable to afford food, medicine, and other basic necessities. The situation has continued for over 1.5 years, deaths from the lockdown have continued and are now increasing at high speed. Now out of every 10 people that die, it is estimated that 4 of them die of hunger, not Covid 19. At the time of writing this, Uganda has had more than 87,277 confirmed COVID-19 cases and more than 2,104 confirmed deaths from the virus, yet we have spent more than 480 days in the draconian lockdown, and the government plans to extend it more and more because of the increasing cases in the country. As we speak, inter-district travel and movement between towns and cities are all locked.
My name is Iga Ronald, I am the National Director of Liberty Sparks Uganda, a Non-profit Organization standing on the Principles of Liberty. I’ve set up this fundraiser to raise money for the local community of Nansana municipality in the Wakiso District of Kampala Uganda. The aim of the campaign is to raise some good money to feed over 200 homes/families belonging to people who are currently in dire need of help. At this time, we will be targeting homes of single mothers with young children who are vulnerable and struggling to get by. We hope as our donations improve and give us more strength, we can expand our work to more and more people in need.
We therefore hope that all those who read this will help us by generously donating to this campaign so that those going hungry in our local community will have food in their bellies soon.
The LIBERTY SPARKS wants to help 200 Families with foodstuffs and sanitary products that will help them for the coming weeks. Thus, we are kindly requesting your much-needed support to reach our target goal of $4,910 for the following items:
