“I love that Level Ground's rejection of the trappings of white supremacy—grind culture, binary thinking, imposed hierarchies—creates a space for both personal and collective reflection and imagining of alternate modes of being. It fosters an environment where we can consider our place, what we have to share, and how we can mutually uplift one another.”

WE'RE DREAMING ABOUT ART-MAKING AND THE FUTURE OF WORK
Level Ground is working towards fully crystallizing and operating within a decentralized leadership model. This developing framework challenges harmful expectations surrounding institutional power, in alignment with our goal of destabilizing white supremacy in our work. Our emerging model prioritizes rest, personal capacity for work, and compassion for our team members. Our journey in building this organizational structure offers an example of healthier, more viable options for business and leadership in alignment with increasing public demand for changes in the way we work. Level Ground operates as a wayshower, lighting up the pathway towards that change.
Due to the existence and perpetuation of oppressive systems in our life, work and imaginations, Black, POC and queer artists are very rarely afforded the same opportunities for visibility as their non-queer, non-POC peers. When we have fewer opportunities to see, experience and take in stories that exist beyond the often-unattainable standards set by patriarchy, capitalism and white supremacy, we exist within a less-compassionate world, unable to extend ourselves to recognize the humanity in those whose stories may be different from our own.
As we attempt to navigate through the unignorable financial, racial, social and health inequities unveiled in our post-lockdown, politically-divisive society, the ability to access and extend empathy to others is needed now more than ever. We need it to be able to heal from the collective trauma of the last several years. We need it to begin to trust one another again. We need it for the sake of our environment, our democracy, and for future generations who will inhabit the world that it has befallen us to reshape.
Level Ground exists to offer a pathway forward within this new world, through the liberatory avenues of art-making and community-building.
