Let's Spread Goodness Like Glitter! Rogue Hunt Fundraiser for APOPO

The Rogue Hunt is a quirky, creative scavenger hunt for people all around the world who want to put more whimsy, creativity, and goodness into the world. Our main event is a week-long team-based hunt held every August.

This year, the Rogue Hunt is collaborating with APOPO to make a difference.

At TB clinics in Tanzania, APOPO’s detection rats screen sputum samples that microscopes miss. HeroRATs screen 100 sputum samples in 20 minutes, a task that takes up to 4 days with standard microscopy—speeding up diagnoses and enabling earlier treatment interventions. Any sample the rats flag gets reconfirmed by WHO-approved methods. This partnership has boosted case-finding by about 40%, catching patients earlier and helping curb transmission.

In the former battlefields of Cambodia, Angola and Mozambique, HeroRATs have tirelessly scoured suspected minefields, sniffing out unexploded devices without ever triggering one. Their light weight and exceptional olfactory powers let them map and clear terrain that would be too dangerous or costly for machines and humans—reclaiming land so farmers can safely return to their fields. Currently, HeroDOGs are deployed in Ukraine to help reclaim the battlefields from mines.
