Sunshine Animal Refuge Agadir
We have over 800 dogs to feed and look after. This is not what we set out to do.
We were working with the local authorities in Agadir to eradicate rabies and reduce the population of street dogs in the city. We started to neuter, vaccinate, tag and then return the dogs to the streets (TNR) in 2016. By April 2018 we had sterilised, vaccinated and tagged over 1000 dogs. Then everything changed. Pressure mounted to cull dogs instead of TNR. We lobbied the local authorities but to no avail, the local authorities have started to poison and shoot street dogs. We had to keep safe all the dogs we had treated.
We managed to find a space and rescued most of the dogs. This refuge is extremely basic, no electricity, unreliable water supply etc. We are working hard to feed and care for these dogs we have rescued and at the same time continue to make the case for TNR.
Our founder, Michele Augsburger, rescued and provides refuge at her home and farm in Agadir region for close to 400 animals including over 150 cats, many dogs, donkeys, birds etc. She has been helping animals here since 2008.
We desperately need your help. Please donate as much as you can spare, every penny counts, every penny goes to help the dogs and other animals. A small regular amount will help us feed the dogs from month to month and pay for the staff. A larger donation will help us build shelters and improve the facilities.
