Lāhui Foundation - Community Food Security
Lāhui Foundation is a federally recognized tax-exempt 501(c)(3) Hawaii non-profit organization founded in 2019 dedicated to identifying the needs of marginalized communities and working to improve quality of life while protecting and preserving our culture and ʻāina. Since 2019, Lāhui Foundation has served the Koʻolau region and beyond by addressing food insecurity, bringing essential services to the community, responding to emerging needs, and standing alongside community members to support and uplift community-led initiatives.
Nearly 1 in 3 households in Hawai‘i are already facing food insecurity, yet nearly $200 billion in federal food assistance cuts are planned nationwide—and now, the government shutdown has paused all SNAP benefits for November. Beginning November 1st, more than 165,000 Hawai‘i residents will see cuts to their SNAP benefits, leaving many families in urgent need of support. In response, Lāhui Foundation is taking action to help fill the gap.
We are seeking support for upcoming emergency food distributions. With thousands of residents impacted, ensuring the well-being of our community remains our top priority.
