Goal

Kenya has been experiencing heavy rains and floods since March, which has led to terrible situations, including flooding in different parts of the country. An estimated 300 people have been killed, while 300,000 have been displaced. The floods have caused mudslides and damaged infrastructure, including collapsed bridges and roads. Crops have been washed away, and thousands of people have had their livelihoods disrupted. The floods have also disrupted daily life, leaving many families without basic necessities such as shelter, food, clean water, and electricity. This has exacerbated sanitation issues and the risk of waterborne diseases. The situation also poses a risk of food insecurity.

AVSI Foundation is actively responding to this crisis by providing immediate and long-term support to affected communities in various counties, including Nairobi (Kibera slums, Mathare slums), Kiambu (Kahawa, Wendani, and Githurai), Meru, Narok, Elgeiyo, Marakwet, Nandi, Kajiado, Baringo, and Siaya.

By contributing, you are helping to:

  • Provide Psychosocial Support: Ensure individuals and families receive the emotional and psychological help they need to recover.
  • Ensure Educational Continuity: Guarantee that children can continue their education despite the disruption caused by floods. With additional funding, AVSI can provide scholastic materials, such as uniforms, books, and pens.
  • Expand Relief Efforts: Enable AVSI to distribute essential supplies and support displaced families and communities with comprehensive aid, such as food, household items, rent in temporary housing solutions, and mosquito nets.
