Help Us Stock for Spring

The effects of the pandemic and surging prices have many visiting our food pantry for the first time. Those that are comfortable have noticed the price increases, but they can still manage. It's different for people with limited means. Those less fortunate spend a higher percentage of their income on basic needs like food, medicine, heat, electricity, rent, and transportation. The loss of a job, divorce, an illness or when prices go up, they have less slack in their budgets to offset any increase in expenses and can quickly fall into hardship. Those already living on tight budgets are forced to make tough choices and often find themselves facing food insecurity.

Food insecurity is defined as a lack of consistent access to enough food for every person in a household. This can be a temporary situation for a household or can last a long time. Unfortunately, many that suffer from food insecurity don't qualify for federal nutrition programs like SNAP and rely on food pantries, like ours, to make ends meet.

Between Friends Food Pantry has also felt the economic impact of inflation. Although the number of households we serve has decreased since the early days of the pandemic, our numbers are elevated compared to our pre-pandemic average. Please consider making a gift today and know that your gift will make a positive and direct impact on the lives of our struggling neighbors. We could not do this important work without community partners like you. To learn how you can help join the fight against hunger in our Kaneland community, please visit
