--- Jazz, folk tales and classical piano ---
DONATION: consider 4 EUR per person or more
If you had to check the map after reading the title, you already have an idea about how eclectic Katerina Ldokova’s references are. While distant and different, these two geographies have influenced how and what she plays, and the result is but magical.
Katerina grew up in Minsk, Belarus, her mother a classical piano teacher, which could not but result in Katerina becoming a classical pianist herself, as the soviet tradition would prescribe. We could well end the story here, yet serendipity had a few geographical surprises for Katerina in its coffers.
The unpredictable forces of emigration take Katerina to the Azores, the remote Portuguese islands in the Atlantic, where her becoming of age as a composer begins. Here, she discovers the rhythms of the Portuguese-speaking world. There is an inevitable, immediate passion for Brazilian music, then the contemporary music, then jazz.
Ten years later, already in Lisbon, Katerina stumbles upon some dusty tapes from the 70's that were made during the Soviet folk expeditions into the Belarusian villages. She discovers the tales of long gone rural life, accompanied by instruments she cannot name. So she decides to give new life to these memories by mixing in some jazz and some of the Portuguese and Brazilian musical traditions. What has come out of it is a project called Mova Dreva, which means the language of a tree - a universal language of nature.
Here is a ballad with a word-game about a big bird and small bird (in Portuguese...sorry! You can ask Katerina at the concert to explain):

WHO IS ORGANISING THIS?
Invisible City, a non-profit that supports emerging artists. The communication support comes from Selina, a design-driven network of hostels for digital nomads, and NomadX, a month to month housing platform in Portugal for independent travellers. We are doing this because we all believe in fair pay for the emerging artists and meeting each other online, despite the quarantine.
HOW DOES THIS WORK?
Once you make a donation, we’ll send you a ticket with a secret code to the virtual room on Zoom. We have a professional Zoom account for maximum quality, and the artists have proper gear that we’ve tested over and over during our soundcheck.
HOW CAN I CONTRIBUTE?
We encourage you to make a donation on behalf of every person who’ll assist this online concert together with you. We believe that 4 Euros per person is fair, yet if you have the means and wish to support the artist and Invisible City further, we’d be grateful if your donation corresponds to what feels fairest to you.
