Goal
The Kafunjo Community project do incredible work focussed not only on the immediate needs of children in Ibanda, Uganda, but also with long term education, sustainability and support of the whole area in mind.
10 volunteers from Jersey and the UK are banding together to join their efforts.
We will be working on their upcoming projects (farming, digging, labouring, building, whatever needs doing!) as well as supporting the teachers and taking care of the children.
We are entirely self funded (and will be camping and cooking on an open fire :) ) so every penny you donate will go towards the costs of materials for the projects.
We're happy to work for our donations too and have already got stuck into garden clearances and car washes - but are open to more ideas!
If you'd like to donate we would massively appreciate it, and so will the Kafunjo project.
To set up the projects for the next stage of construction we need to raise £10,000 - it's a lot, but even a few pounds helps hugely so please do give what you can.
Thank you,
Philip, Toni, Ella, Rory, Jonathan, Gaby, Sarah, Julie, Lesley, Ron and Isla.
Read more about the Kafunjo Community Project...
The Kafunjo Community Project was established 2013 in Ibanda Province, south-west Uganda to tackle the challenges faced by children of the region. Their objective and ambition is to develop safe housing for orphans of the region, provide free education to those who cannot afford it, adequate food for the children, and free medical care for the children and wider community.
With an incredible amount of hard work and dedication the project has successfully founded an orphanage housing 152 children, a high achieving primary school which currently provides free education to 382 children, a new medical clinic and around 42 hectares of arable land. The project also provides financial support to 27 Kafunjo graduates presently studying at secondary school and 8 others who are pursuing vocational studies in Field Guiding and Tourism.
None of this would have been possible without the support and amazing fundraising efforts of volunteers and corporations over the years.
Ongoing projects include constructing The Kafunjo Green School and a safe water project.
The Kafunjo Green School will provide practical learning relevant to the needs and opportunities currently presented in Kafunjo and the surrounding areas.
Building work on the school originally started in Feb 2020 but due to the massive impact of COVID 19 in the region works had to be halted. Currently the building is an eroding shell with no roof and we urgently need to continue work and rescue the remaining shell from further damage.
The Kafunjo Water Project - Each day the project uses over 1000 litres of water which is collected by hand by the teachers and children from the small river 400 meters from the main site. This water is used for drinking, bathing, cooking and construction but isn't safe for consumption until boiled and filtrated.
The project are working on a long term solution to ensure the children have a reliable, hygienic and easily accessible source of water which will also provide irrigation to their agricultural land.
