Goal

Kadjin: the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Youth Arts Network is a newly formed advocacy group that will offer funded professional development, yarning, healing, empowering, performance, and other opportunities for young Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people in Western Australia.
Kadjin has been formed as part Representation Matters: Building Our Future Cultural Leaders, a new capacity-building initiative from Propel Youth Arts WA which aims to develop a diverse cohort of arts and cultural leaders who can become mentors to their peers and the community at large.
A second group, focusing on young artists who identify as intercultural or Culturally and/or Linguistically Diverse, will be nurtured to collaborate at a cross-cultural youth arts conference led by Kadjin participants, which is currently scheduled to take place in mid-2022.
Propel’s work in the youth arts space has been recognised with a Federal Government grant of $25,000 through Creative Partnerships Australia’s Plus1 matched funding program.
Every dollar you donate until 30 January 2021 will be matched by Creative Partnerships Australia, up to $25,000. That means for every $1 you donate, we will raise an extra $1 to become $2!
Supporting emerging artists and leaders can create ripple effects throughout our communities. The return on investment from your donation stretches far beyond matched dollar leveraging. Developing emerging cultural leaders enriches our sector, creating a new network of mentors for the future.
“This group opens a space for learning and discussing cultural knowledge. I think time for opportunity, healing, empowerment and growth is extremely important.” – Khia Emslie-O’Brien
“We would operate with our full acknowledgment of our contexts, our collective history and the experiences of the generations before us.” – Kobi Arthur Morrison
“With these extra funds we have the opportunity to create a youth arts conference, leadership program on country for 10 participants, development with elders and professionals and healing. Now is the time to come together.” – Zal Kanga-Parabia
If you would like to discuss your donation, please arrange a meeting with Propel’s General Manager Jamie McGleave, by emailing jamie@propel.org.au or calling the Propel office on 08 9328 5855.
