Journalists in Exile 2025
Above: Alfred Friendly fellows visited a federal courtroom this summer to learn about the legal system. They were accompanied by judges and leaders of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers.
Help Alfred Friendly Press Partners build resiliency in international journalism.
Our new training program focuses on foreign journalists who are living in exile in the US. We do not know exactly how many there are, but the number is in the thousands. The reason is growing autocracy around the world. Dictators dislike a free press.
This year’s group of a dozen journalists included fellows from Afghanistan, Russia, Belarus, Kashmir, Haiti, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Venezuela. The impact of our training was immediate with several finding new employment and professional opportunities.
This is only possible through your support and donations. Your contribution—no matter the size —makes a difference. For example, $25 buys meals for a fellow for one day.
Online donations can be made through this form, we can accept donations nationally and internationally, while keeping your information secure and private.
