Quite simply for a great pioneering journalist

My friend gave me this little book that she has written called.Mattie Merrywinkle. Her name is Annie White. I would like to donate a small some to show my appreciation.

This donation is in honour of the courageous journalists of Mexico, who face extraordinary risks in their work

Annie White, one of the runners-up in your recent competition, is a good friend of mine. I thought her chronicles of Mattie Merrywinkle during lockdown absolutely superb and I am giving a couple of copies to appreciative family members for Christmas. Having finished the adventures of the aforementioned lady, I feel totally bereft! Perhaps Miss Mattie might be persuaded to make a reappearance sometime in the future!

I would like to thank Mr Charles Garside for his recordings of 150 stories, taken from the entries submitted to the Journalists' Charity /Dickens Fellowship 300-word story competition to mark the 150th anniversary of Charles Dickens' death. One of the stories was mine! I enjoyed writing it and it's a thrill to hear Mr Garside reading it!

I want to support the Dickens Competition, great idea. We have so many interesting characters in this country. We need to celebrate them and this is a great way to do it.

Your work has never been so important as at this time of global uncertainty.

As a journalism student I understand the dangers the industry faces at a time where facts are needed to drown out the increasing barrage of so-called 'fake news'. While far from perfect, newspapers are vital to informing the public and will hopefully continue to play a part for many years to come.
