In 2022, we had the joy of welcoming sweet Jose-Naica into our home when she was just a few weeks old. Her mother faced significant challenges due to mental illness, making it difficult for her to care for her daughter. When Jose-Naica arrived, she was crying from hunger; the last meal she had received consisted of nothing more than flour and water. Thankfully, after we provided her with a bottle of formula and a warm bath, she began to experience the love and security of a true home.
The older children, particularly the young girls, embraced her warmly, eager to help care for her. Not long after her arrival, her mother returned, hoping to reunite and care for her baby. However, due to ongoing struggles with her mental health, she ultimately decided she could not provide the care Jose-Naica needed and brought her back to us a few months later. Shortly after, her older sister, Berlinda, joined us as well. The two girls are inseparable and absolutely adorable together!
Our orphanage feels like a large family, where everyone looks out for one another. Jose-Naica may be small for her age, but she is a little warrior who has already overcome so much. Our prayer is for her continued growth in weight, strength, and overall development.
For just four years old, she is surprisingly independent—unafraid to walk around the property on her own or engage in play by herself. She delights in dolls, imaginative play, candy, and all things girly. With her sweet spirit, she has so much love to give—and just as much to soak in.
