Art Improves Communities

- 70% of Americans believe that the “arts improve the image and identity” of their community.
- 87% of participants believe the arts are important to quality of life.
- 82% believe art is important to local businesses and the economy.
“Investing in art and culture is central to our mission. I can tell you why in just 9 words: art binds people to place and to each other.”
- David Rubenstein, Knight Foundation
Introducing, JASPELD™.
JASPELD™ the Elephant, a commissioned art piece, will be an 8x8 foot sculpture to be located in the outdoor courtyard at 3i HoME’s totally wheelchair accessible building of 51 apartments (named Sturgeon Place) being constructed at The Downs in Scarborough, Maine.
Why JASPELD™?
3i HoME was founded by Paul Linet in order to further advance work in which his late wife was involved. Susan Linet, MD, was a community activist advocating for changes in Maine’s home and community based system for people eligible for long term services and support.
Susan and her family are the ‘why’ behind 3i Housing of Maine and specifically our first project at The Downs.
A few of the things Susan loved were her career as a pediatrician, her family and the color purple. She also had a particular fondness for elephants. These massive creatures are loyal, powerful, highly intelligent and compassionate. They are considered to be one of the world’s most empathic species – much like humans.
JASPELD™ stands for “Jerrold, Ariel/Andrew, Susan/Sarah, Paul/Phoebe, Ellen, Lily, David, Dan and Dylan” - all of Susan’s immediate family.
JASPELD™ Key Features:
- Inclusive: JASPELD™ will be community art adjacent to the new Town Center at The Downs
- Interactive: Colorful, mixed media art, tied into programming at Sturgeon Place
- Inspiring: JASPELD™ will draw from the strength and wisdom that shaped 3i HoME’s vision
Help JASPELD™ Become a Reality
We are currently working with artist, to create a mockup of the sculpture and provide a scope for the project. Our hopes is the JASPELD™ would be installed in Spring 2027. We are currently working to raise $30,000 to fund JASPELD™. Your donation will directly fund this impactful art piece for residents at Sturgeon Place at The Downs, local community members, and beyond.
Thank you for your consideration and support.
