Hey Jake, I’ve got a unique request you might find interesting. I’m a longtime subscriber and repeat contributor. My brother, a U.S. veteran, went to fight in Ukraine—he survived a drone-dropped grenade to his legs, though others in his platoon didn’t. I’ve been trying to get more people to care about the war on his behalf and for those still fighting.
I’d love to suggest a specific idea: consider making one video per month (or quarter) that’s as politically neutral as possible, summarizing the war and putting recent developments into context. The goal would be to reach people in the MAGA sphere who currently tune out anything that feels critical of Trump. Right or wrong, even subtle disdain can make them defensive and stop listening.
I think you’re in a place to do this well—your storytelling, production value, and background could make these videos highly effective and shareable. Imagine a recurring 10,000-foot view format designed specifically to be sent to friends and family who might not otherwise engage. You could even build hype around each release, like the fundraisers, and encourage your audience to share it widely.
To be clear, it will still be political—but avoiding personal attacks, eye rolls, or commentary that signals contempt for Trump or his supporters could help keep those viewers engaged. Opening with your credibility as a veteran could also go a long way.
From my experience, some people simply don’t understand the situation. I’ve heard questions like “Why hasn’t Russia won yet?” or “Would it really be so bad if Ukraine were part of Russia again?” It’s hard to find recent, accessible videos that clearly explain Ukraine’s strength and resolve.
I know it’s not my place to tell you how to do your job, but this feels like a real opportunity to broaden support. Thanks for considering it.
