International Youth Media Summit
Nobody can solve the world’s most challenging issues alone. That’s why we push boundaries and break barriers. Fueled by the power of media, we come together to make an impact on the world.
Delegates from all around the world come together to one location to explore the world's major issues for two weeks. They create digital works of art and social action that are tightly connected to the most urgent global issues: Discrimination, Environment, Health, Poverty, Violence, Women's Rights and Youth Empowerment. Recognised by the delegates of the 1st IYMS in 2006, all of these Issues are still present everywhere in the world. For the past 18 years, new delegates explore the power and impact of media to transform attitudes, behaviours and lives and apply their new awareness to the making of films about social issues that matter most to them.
The 100 young people and their mentors will dialogue, study, and propose solutions for seven urgent social issues, create 7 short films accompanied by Tool Kits for Action to be used in classrooms and civic gatherings around the globe. Together they will devote over 21,000 hours to these joint projects, working toward a common goal and being accountable for a concrete creative product within a limited time period. In this process, youth create a model for a peaceful yet dynamic, cooperative world community.
Past Summits have brought together historic enemies that learned to work together. They demonstrated that the Summit can break through the walls of culture, religion and economic status that keep us apart. To have the greatest impact, we need the greatest representation from around the world. We need your help to bring all deserving young people to the Summit, regardless of their economic status.
- Airfare: $1,000 - $2,000 per person.
- Room and board: $900 per person.
TOTAL: From $1,900 to $2,900 per person.
This is the average annual income in representative countries:

Nepal: $1,160
India: $1,420
Sri Lanka: $2,000
In the past, because of generous donors, we have heard the voices of those most profoundly affected by the seven issues. They have motivated us to take action:
- the young man from Sierra Leone that was kidnapped and forced to be a child soldier
- the young Afghan woman who teaches orphans maimed by land mines
- the Japanese girl who witnessed the impact of the tsunami in her country
- the Bosnian girl beaten and tortured because she is a Roma
Your donation will enable young delegates to have a once in a lifetime experience to share their stories with their peers regardless of their income.
