Informed Action for a Stronger Louisiana
Discover how your support can create lasting change.
Hurricane Francine is expected to bring devastating impacts to communities across Louisiana, with heavy rains, flooding, and storm surges. The storm is currently a Category 1 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 90 mph. It is expected to strengthen into a Category 2 hurricane before landfall.
At Foundation for Louisiana (FFL), we understand that recovery goes beyond immediate relief—it requires long-term investments in communities often left behind in traditional disaster responses. Through our Freedom Forward Fund, we support efforts that focus on equitable recovery, ensuring that marginalized communities have the resources to rebuild stronger and more resilient.
With your support, we play a critical role in organizing, funding, and advocating for policies that ensure just recovery for all Louisianans. Your donation and advocacy help us prepare for the long haul—investing in communities today to ensure they are better equipped to face future crises. Join us in creating lasting change and building a more resilient Louisiana.
You're not just a bystander – you're an advocate for a better Louisiana. That's why we want to empower you with the knowledge and tools to make informed decisions about your impact.
The Freedom Forward Fund is your chance to invest in data-driven solutions that address the root causes of vulnerability and build a more resilient future for our state.
The Data Behind the Need:
FILLING THE GAP IN DISASTER RECOVERY Foundation for Louisiana's most impactful disaster justice work is filling the gap in mid-to-long term recovery. Two years have passed since Hurricane Ida made landfall on August 29, 2021, yet blue tarps remain a common sight across communities from Port Fourchon to Baton Rouge. Hurricane Ida looms large in our conversations with Louisiana fishers, shrimpers, oysters, and leaders from our coastal tribal communities, nonprofits, and community organizations. These groups face the double burden of responding to climate change-intensified disasters like Hurricane Ida while also being directly impacted by those disasters. FFL’s disaster grantmaking strategy— built on 16 years of experience and intentional learning —is designed to be flexible, responsive, and readily adaptable to changing conditions in impacted communities and within disaster response efforts. It unfolds along three phases. |
