Oh, Buster Mash, you sweet boy.  You had been through so much and had come so far.  

And then out of nowhere, a tumor appeared and took you from us. 

You left behind your incredible foster parents who committed the last 2.5 months to you, lovingly nursing you back to health.  You were nothing but skin and bones when they rushed to the Humane Society to rescue you before planned euthanasia.  You had come so close to giving up all hope in humanity prior to them appearing and bringing you home.  Being brand new foster parents did not faze them one bit.  They loved you and nurtured you through constant bouts of vomiting and diarrhea until they were able to figure out a food you could digest in limited quantities.  Feeding 5 small meals a day?  No problem.  Their attitude was “whatever it takes”.

In those 2.5 months, with good vet care and lots of foster love and care, your sensitive digestive system improved, and with you gained 6 pounds!!!  You were a true miracle. 

And then it happened…you got sick again without warning.  Foster Mom took you back to the vet and they felt a mass in your abdomen.  X-rays and an ultrasound confirmed a tumor where one had not been 2 months ago.  Absolutely heartbroken, it was decided that exploratory surgery was worth a shot to see if you could be saved.  If there was no hope, we would let you rest and go to the bridge pain free.  We all tried our best, but this time we could not save you.

You taught us how resilient and forgiving you can be, even after your owners, who had pledged to take care of you, had let you down.  This is why we RESCUE.  We need to be there for dogs like you when there is no other hope.  Even though you are gone now, we do not regret one bit of being a part of your life and doing our best to restore your faith in humans.  Thank you for bringing out the best in us.

Rest in peace, Buster Mash.  You are gone but not definitely not forgotten.
