In Loving Memory - Karen Bunting (1949-2024)
This fundraising page has been set up for Hackney Foodbank in memory of Karen Bunting.
Born in 1949 in North Yorkshire, Karen moved to London to study Chemistry at University. She met her husband Peter during a trip to Cambridge in the early 70s and they enjoyed 50 years of marriage.
After University Karen worked briefly in publishing and as a computer programmer before discovering ceramics. She set up her first pottery studio in Hackney in 1977 when she and Peter moved to Beck Road - part of a community of artists who lived and worked on the street. Their children Johnny and Lola were born and grew up there.
A passionate advocate for social and political change, Karen would have been proud to support Hackney Foodbank and their work in the community. Over the years, she witnessed how the changes happening in the community failed to benefit the poorest and most vulnerable and she recognised the inequality around her.
Karen lived and worked in Hackney until her death on 27 March 2024 from cancer. She is greatly missed by her husband Peter, son Johnny, daughter Lola and her brother Robert as well as all who knew and loved her.
Her family felt a donation in her name would be a fitting tribute to a beautiful, kind and generous wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend.
