Ida Martinac for Berkeley Rent Board
Ida Martinac is an immigrant from Croatia & a single mom. She studied International Relations at City College of NY & Environmental Law at Golden Gate University in SF. She has dedicated her career to civil service & is a shop steward with SEIU Local 1000. Ida volunteered with both of Bernie’s presidential runs & has come to accept the maxim that all politics is local, and that it’s up to the citizens to organize and fight for a better future, rooted in humanity, justice, and sustainability.
Ida is running as a member of the Right to Housing Slate for Berkeley Rent Board, a group of progressive, pro-tenant candidates—selected and endorsed through the Berkeley Tenants Convention—running for the Berkeley Rent Stabilization Board. We believe that Housing is a Human Right and are dedicated to making sure that everyone has access to safe, affordable housing. Collectively we have experience as single mothers, tenants, tenant attorneys, homeless, displaced, and community members who have lost income because of COVID-19. As community members and advocates, we are passionate about creating a just and fair society where everyone has a right to housing and an opportunity to succeed.
