The Humane Society for Greater Savannah has grown to become the largest no-kill shelter in Georgia outside of Atlanta. Each year, we:

• Find loving homes for approximately 2,500 animals
• Perform nearly 8,000 spay/neuter surgeries
• Provide essential services to more than 15,000 pets

In recognition of this impact, we received the 2023 Collective Impact Award from Best Friends Animal Society. Our leadership also extends beyond Savannah through our work in the Chatham 90 coalition (Chatham County), Better Together Georgia (statewide), and the Best Friends Animal Society Network Strategy Council (nationwide).

Thanks in large part to the generous support of our community and supporters, HSGS has experienced remarkable growth. In 2016, we served approximately 6,000 animals annually. By 2022 and 2023, that number had more than doubled to over 14,000 animals per year. In 2024, we reached a new milestone with 15,579 animals served, and we have already served more than 17,500 animals in 2025.

While adoption and spay/neuter remain core services, our impact reaches further. We also provide:

• Dog training programs
• Basic veterinary care for owned pets
• Shelter intake diversion, rehoming programs
• A community pet food pantry
• Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) for community cats
• Volunteer opportunities, community and shelter education/outreach

Together, these programs ensure that we not only save animals in our care but also help prevent shelter overcrowding and reduce euthanasia across the region. With your support, we can continue the incredible work of our staff and volunteers here at HSGS.
