Honey Bear Heroes
We have three different sponsorship levels to choose from. Honey Bear Heroes are at our highest level of care, which is $100 a month. You will receive a Whispering Willows tumbler and a monthly newsletter with this sponsorship choice. The seniors that fit into this category are at our top tier of hospice care, have been diagnosed with cancer, or are in some sort of organ failure and require expensive medication and treatments. Honey Bear is a golden heart and is a wonderful role model for this category.
Please read Honey Bears story below. Our sweet Honey Bear has been with us for two years. She immediately worked her way into our hearts at Whispering Willows and became one of our beloved spokesdogs! Honey Bears family surrendered her as they had had a baby. Honey lost her only family she had ever known. She was heartbroken. She made her journey from Florida to the sanctuary in Missouri. Honey Bear remains one of our most expensive seniors medically at over a $1,000 per month. She has a rare auto immune condition that was undiagnosed until after she arrived. She was very ill when she came to us but through trial and error with our veterinarians Honey Bear started her path to being healthy for the very first time. You can not resist Honey's toothy smile and sweet golden heart. Honey Bear is love. She gives more love than you can imagine.
Lately we have noticed Honey Bear slowing down and she seemed to not be herself. She also developed a sore on her ankle that became concerning. After visiting with our medical team we have received news that we did not want to hear.
Honey Bear has soft tissue Sarcoma. The cancer grows in fat and deep layers of the skin which eventually comes to the surface and bursts. It is a highly unpredictable cancer. Typically more lesions will start to pop up. But again, very unpredictable. It's a very rare cancer. The spot she had on her ankle is being treated as well as two lesions on her bottom. Due to Honey Bear's age and auto immune disorder our best plan of action will be to keep her as healthy as we can and pain free. We will keep her on prednisone, antibiotics, and pain meds, adjusting as needed as time goes on.
Honey Bear has mended our hearts at times and brings a smile to all of us at the sanctuary every single day. We will give her the best possible care and love her every step of the way. Her heart, as we said is truly golden, nothing but love shines from it.
We do not know the path her cancer will take (or timeframe) but we will be by her side at all times. We will not give up on Honey Bear and we know out there all over the world she has adoring fans that love her. Even if you don't know her, her pictures bring a smile and warms your heart.
