WHAT COMMITMENT DO SPONSORS USUALLY MAKE?

Generally, our sponsors commit to supporting their students until graduation (two to five years). Many sponsors choose to continue their support if the student does well enough to continue on to college or university.

WILL I GET TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE STUDENT I SUPPORT?

Sponsors who commit to supporting a student through at least 8th grade graduation will receive updates, photos, and letters from their student. The relationship is two-way, and we ask that sponsors write letters of encouragement to the students they support.

WHAT FEES DOES FRIENDS OF KAKAMEGA PAY FOR ONLINE DONATIONS?

SHOULD I JUST MAIL A CHECK INSTEAD?

We have to pay processing fees for online gifts, but in step 3 of 3 in the donation widget, it gives you the option to add those processing fees on top of your donation so we don't have to pay them. Fees are as follows:

Credit cards - 3.2% processing fee
Regular PayPal donations - 3.2%
Bank transfers - 1.6% processing fee
