Donate to The Hollow Tree Documentary: Directed by Kira Akerman, Produced by Monique Walton
Hollow Tree is a feature documentary about three young women coming-of-age along the Mississippi River. The river spills over from time-to-time, flooding their neighborhoods, and resulting in land loss, even though it’s been heavily restrained, managed, and controlled. The more they learn about the river, the more they identify with it. As part of their shared quest to become "their true selves," they imagine how society might shift from a colonial mindset to engineering the river anew.
Hollow Tree has been supported by the Sundance Institute/Kendeda Fund, Fork Films, the International Documentary Association, The Harnisch Foundation, the Southern Documentary Fund, the Tulane University Monroe Fellowship, and anonymous donations.
