Goal
Hello friends and family,
As some of you know, I recently got involved in the sport of triathlon and I am racing in the Malibu Triathlon this month. As I log the miles, swim the laps, and bike the hills, I am kept company by a lingering sense of gratitude. Gratitude that I get to do this, I am choosing to do this, I even enjoy doing it. Because in my day-to-day work at Mending Kids, I am faced with a stark contrast – kids who are also logging the miles, but not for fun – their lives depend on it. I am racing against the clock of personal bests, they are racing against the clock of life or death.
Take Joel, who trekked in tow with his aunt for an entire week, completing a 700-mile journey to reach our cardiac mission. Unable to afford the bus fare, they hiked and hitchhiked clear across Tanzania to obtain the care for his congenital heart disease that would save his life.
This is my triathlon fundraising page, but it has nothing to do with my race – whether I finish or how well I do – it is about Joel and all of the other children across the globe who are running their own races; the more important race. With your help, we can do our best to ensure that they make it to the finish line. Register at https://events.mendingkids.org/ and hike with me on October 8th, or make an impactful donation, so that we can provide kids with the life-saving surgical care they need.
