Goal
On October 7th, 2023, a magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck near Herat, Afghanistan’s 3rd largest city. It was one of the deadliest earthquakes in recent years. As of 10/8/23, 2,300 have died, over 9,240 wounded. 1,320 homes have been destroyed and over 20 villages affected, some entirely wiped out. As the Herat province has endured two more earthquakes of similar magnitude in the days following, both the numbers of dead and those in incredible need of aid are rising.
The Nooristan Foundation has partnered with Afghan Relief, a fellow nonprofit organization in the U.S. with experience and presence on the ground in Afghanistan, to help provide immediate aid to victims of the earthquake. Afghan Relief has completed a survey of the destruction in remote villages of the Zindajan District and has identified hundreds of families who have not yet received even the smallest amount of assistance. They are in urgent need of tents, blankets, food and water. And those needs are the baseline necessities.
With this campaign, Nooristan Foundation’s goal is to raise $7,500 USD to help 65 families. A realistic, almost miniscule ask, which will assuredly go directly to those in need and make an incalculable difference in their situations.
The staff of our partner Afghan Relief on the ground in Afghanistan will distribute the supplies to survivors. This will provide them with emergency supplies so desperately needed. With colder weather fast approaching, we must reach those affected by this natural disaster. Your contribution, in the starkest of terms, will make it possible for families to survive the hardships before them. It all may seem insurmountable, but no mountain is fixed in place. We must help our suffering brothers and sisters. Thank you.
