Goal

In 2022, the City of Akron sued me, our church, and our charity for sheltering homeless people.

Now, Summit County Common Pleas Courts is billing me for the pleasure of that experience.

I had 15 tents that sheltered about 30 people because they had nowhere else to live. And the answer to solving this homeless tragedy was to sue me, our church, and our charity.

And not only did they want me never to put a tent on my private property ever again (the injunction runs with the land), they wanted to be able to fine or jail me if they caught me putting a tent on ANY land ANYWHERE in Akron.

Fortunately, my attorney, Loucile Powers, convinced them just to be able to fine or jail me if I put a tent on my own private property ever again. (This injunction runs with the land. So I guess anyone who ever owns the land can go to jail if they dare put a tent on it in all of time.)

The court is billing the three defendants:

  • Church of the Nomadic Spirit: $161.85
  • Houseless Movement: $161.84
  • Sage Lewis: $161.84

Since day one, the city of Akron has never grasped the critical point we have been trying to make: There are human beings, American citizens, living without any means of shelter in Akron, Ohio, and every major city in America. THAT'S the problem we are pointing out.

It's fine if you don't like how I address the issue. But then what is YOUR solution? That's how these things are supposed to work. It's a negotiation. I had a an idea. You didn't like it, but then what is your idea.

The city of Akron has only ever had one solution to homelessness:

NO!

Their solution to their homeless crisis has always been self-evident. The only problem they have is Sage Lewis. If Sage Lewis would stop sheltering American citizens on his private land with private money then there would be no problem at all. Everything else is fine. The system is working beautifully, if that no good Sage Lewis would just stop causing so much trouble.

And now Summit County Courts want to get their piece of the Sage Lewis Problem with $485.53 of court costs.

Maybe I'll learn if they hurt me enough, must be their working theory.

Well, apparently, I'm a thick-skulled. I'm not picking up what they are putting down. Because I have a room full of tents that I'm giving out in what is now a rogue, clandestine operation that the City of Akron would love to crack down on. Keep in mind, this was all during a time when murders were at record highs in our city. Sage Lewis has always been enemy number one with the City of Akron.

At any rate, I don't know if you are moved to help me with this absurdity. But if you have the means, I would deeply appreciate the help with these court costs.

My family has given so much for this cause that, really, is not their cause. I'm not going to ask them to pay for this as I have asked them to pay for so much already. What I don't raise here I'm going to sell plasma to raise the rest. My kid is in college, he is really where our family money needs to be focused right now.

Thank you for any help you are able to give.

Here is the initial injunction where they tried to not only fine or jail me if I put a tent anywhere in Akron, but also would fine or jail a person I gave a tent to including land owners and homeless people:
Initial Preliminary Injunction.

Here is the final agreement:

Final Injunction.

I'm so grateful for all of you. You are the only reason I maintain hope in humanity.

Thank you,

Sage
