Goal
Our goal is to raise €5,500 in order to support the critical work done by cultural workers dealing with subjects like climate breakdown, community engagement, social polarisation and culture in times of crisis.
It’s no secret that culture is essential to thriving, progressive societies, yet despite this, cultural workers tend to be some of the most precarious and marginalised. This is why we founded Fundacja Ziemniaki i as a not-for-profit cultural institution to encourage, nurture, and support early career artists, designers, craftspeople, writers, curators and cultural workers in leading sustainable creative lives.
We believe there is no future without accessible culture. That’s why our organisation strives to work together to improve access, visibility, and working conditions in the creative arts and encourage their positive role in an open and free society. We are uniquely positioned to support the arts and advocate for the role of culture in the fight against critical, systemic issues like the climate catastrophe and increased social polarisation.
At a time of deep social fracture, we know the importance of collaboration. That’s why in 2023, we formally joined forces with Stroboskop Art Space, a nearly decade-old independent, artist-run space, to strengthen the cultural sector in the Central Eastern European region.
Our combined histories include forty-five exhibitions, two artist residences, an international mentorship programme, over 120 artists with whom we have worked, we have overseen two interdisciplinary research projects, published an internationally distributed book, attended four national and international art and book fairs, founded Warsaw’s only publicly available library for artistic research and were core initiators of FRINGE Warszawa, an event established to strengthen the independent sector in the city.
Together, we are stronger. But we need your support to ensure our boundary-pushing and care-driven work can continue.
The goal of €5,500 will ensure our work can continue into 2024 and give us the opportunity to apply for larger grants from the EU and other funding bodies.
The campaign will run from January - March 2024.
Thank you,
Josh Plough and Katie Zazenski
Testimony from Kateryna Rudenko - Ukrainian Writer and Researcher:
“Fundacja Zemniaki i turned out to be the shoulder of support that I needed so much. After fleeing the war in Ukraine, I did not end up powerless and alone with my worry as I received an invaluable opportunity to benefit my community by doing what I love — conducting qualitative research. Thanks to their support, valuable tips regarding improvement of my writing, and the organisation’s financial support, I was able to come up with my first publication located at the intersection of social science and art. What a gift of fate it was to meet like-minded people."
