Super senior 13-year-old Samson lived with the same owner in SC since he was a puppy - all 13 years of his life. When Samson was picked up as a stray, and the owner traced via his microchip, the owner did not want him back. Did the owner even realise Samson was missing? Probably not. In the south, people keep their dogs as “outside dogs” and let them roam. How can you have a dog for 13 years and not want him back? Are you not in love with Samson after all that time?  Are you not bonded and attached? Apparently not.

To sign over Samson to a packed, overwhelmed shelter with new dogs flooding in every day, and knowing that a 13-year-old senior has close to zero chance of being rescued, is cruel. The owner was abandoning Samson to be killed in a strange, loud, scary place surrounded by strangers.

The staff at this shelter are some of the best. They want every dog to get out alive. They work so hard and are so dedicated. They send out emails every single day with all the dogs that need rescue - very few municipal shelters do that.

We saw Samson on one of those daily emails and decided to save him. His life was not finished. It would have been easier, and cheaper, to rescue some of the many puppies the shelter has, but that is not rescue. So many “rescues” are just pet shops – taking puppies, not spaying/neutering and then selling them. Rescue is taking those that need it the most.

Samson deserves so much more than the life he’s had, and we are determined to give him the chance to live out his senior years in comfort. Senior dogs like Samson get overlooked in shelters and are the first to be killed, but with your help, we can provide the medical care he needs.

No donation is too small, and every bit helps bring us closer to giving Samson a better life.
