UPDATE: February 8th 2026

Thank you to everyone who has so kindly lent their support to this life‑or‑death situation. Heartstone’s residents are still fighting to survive certain demise in brutal cold and relentless rain, with no volunteers able to come and lend a hand.
The emergency shelter is up, but it’s nowhere near enough, and all further work has stopped because there simply aren’t the funds to cover the bills piling up.
⚡Nía and the animals are still without electricity, hot water, or heating- nothing since November- to take the edge off the freezing temperatures they’re enduring. The only respite is a small stove at night, but Nía is up every other hour to keep it going, unable to get proper rest.
🐮They urgently need funding to build the handling area and cattle crush to meet legal requirements. Without these, the animals are in real danger. Any day could be their last, and it is a miracle they’ve made it this far. We can’t lose them now.
🐴If you can think of anyone who might be able to contribute at a higher level to help Heartstone avoid the worst, please reach out to them.
Thank you for your compassion, your solidarity, and your continued support. Most of all, thank you for caring about the lives of these sentient gentle giants💚

UPDATE: December 3rd 2025

🐮The Heartstone Gang have a New Home🐴
After the chaos and uncertainty in Sligo and Boggan, the animals (the gang) are finally safe on new land. This is where 20 cows and 4 horses and ponies now live- a place we hope to grow into a true sanctuary.
But right now, it’s only the beginning and winter has hit. Sheds, fencing, gates, and concreting must be built and made safe before winter deepens. The animals are here, but they cannot settle and be well until the right super-solid infrastructure is in place.
This land can become a permanent haven- a place of safety, compassion, and vegan values- but only if we can raise the funds to build it.
💚 Please help us keep Heartstone alive: donate if you can, share to spread the word, or connect us with/ reach out to a potential Donor/ Sponsor for the gang.

If you are able to help with more significant funds, which are needed to finish the works, please be so kind as to get in touch.

Thank you ever so much!

A new home has finally been found, after months of nerve-wracking uncertainty, a final eviction notice, and a relentless, all-consuming effort to keep the Heartstone sanctuary animals safe. Throughout this non-stop nightmare, Nía has worked around the clock, in a state of permanent panic, to protect 20 cows whose lives were continuously hanging in the balance.

Nía is now preparing to move the 20 cows, 4 horses and ponies (+2 dogs and a cat) to the new location. Thanks to your incredible support, you have helped us cover feed and bedding while all of this was going on- now we desperately need your help to get basic shelter, fencing materials and groundwork done so Heartstone can finally relocate and the animals can survive the winter.

The new farm is far from ready. There is so much work to be done, and it HAS TO be done because the farm isn't usable in its current state (see photos below). And there is no time left since we are many weeks overdue the final eviction notice, and months of the government deadline. As you can see, the farm is not fit for purpose, but it's the best Nía was able to do with her own money, after no one had stepped up to save Heartstone.

While this marks a huge step forward, the sanctuary still needs your support. We aim to raise €50,000 to build essential infrastructure- The farm has to be cleaned up, roofs fixed, floors concreted. Handling facilities, fences, gates, and pens erected. Power connected, plus the shepherd's huts, cabin and an office container set up as community space and volunteer accommodation. All to make the new site safe and livable.

Volunteers- both short and long term- are urgently needed and welcome to help with the transition, ongoing care, and the massive workload ahead.

Every share, donation, and offer of help could make the world of difference for the gang, and Ireland's cows in need

Join us in giving these animals the safe, loving home they deserve.

For over 12 years as a vegan and nearly a decade involved in animal welfare work, activism, and support, I’ve seen how rare and precious the kind of courage, endurance, and compassion shown by so many people around the world such as Nía and the Heartstone volunteers truly is: What you are doing for these cows and the community is extraordinary, and it gives hope to so many of us who dream of building a kinder world. I wish I could be there physically helping—I miss being able to fight on the ground like I used to. Unfortunately, after recent ischemic scares and a newly diagnosed neurological illness, my body is not allowing me to do what my heart wants most. For now. I’m focusing on treatment and recovery, hoping that in time I’ll regain the strength to contribute hands-on again. For now, I’m sending this donation with deep admiration. Thank you for your unshakeable commitment, your resilience, and your love for these beautiful beings. You have all my respect, and I’ll continue supporting however I can from afar, here in county Cork. With gratitude hope and solidarity, N 🌼
