Goal
Throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic, so many times we heard the statement, "We are not in the same boat, but we are in the same storm". This is so true since we all have our own personal experiences and faced different personal challenges, hardships, and concerns. For some people, the risks have been higher and challenges have been vast. Members of the BAME communities are SOME of those people who have experienced a greater level of inequalities during these times.
Throughout the lockdowns, The Wellness Tribe distributed surplus food from FareShare North East to over 70 families a week and reached out providing mental health & well-being support. For many members of the BAME communities, this was a vital lifeline of support as poverty, fear, and isolation were compounded. As we all work to try to recover from the challenges, our passion as an organisation is to expand our support and help people not only recover from these last 18 months or so but to successful progress in their lives and to help them reach their potential by overcoming and achieving. However, for many people who we are in contact with before they can even build the hope of a brighter future, they are still trying to survive today. Daily they face food insecurities, struggle mentally and emotionally but you can be a part of their hope
As we expand the work of The Wellness Tribe, we want to continue to support those who are still facing food insecurities with the provision of food. We continue to have the opportunity to access good-to-eat surplus food from FareShare North East, but need to meet their membership fees which is £100 a month (£1,200 a year), which provides approximately 80kgs of food a week.
We are initially looking to raise £1000 for 6 months food membership and to help with some of our operating costs to be able to provide this support.
If we can raise this amount, we can at least commit to providing 6 months of food - which will be almost 2 tonnes of food and nearly 2,500 meals
Then, over these 6 months, we can assess the need and determine the best way forwards to help those facing food insecurities.
Please will you help us to secure these first 6 months?
Please will you donate today, and join us to reach out to these beautiful people, and help put food on their tables, and bring smiles to their faces.
Thank you
ABOUT THE WELLNESS TRIBE
The Wellness Tribe CIC is a BAME led organisation working as a first point of contact for families and individuals experiencing, or at high risk of experiencing mental health issues, because of social and personal factors such as refugee and asylum experiences, racial traumas, poverty, lack of skills, language barriers, health, and economic inequalities, including unemployment and poor housing. Throughout the week we run a variety of support sessions and activities to help draw people together, help successful integration, fight isolation, improve mental health & wellbeing, and help build essential skills to improve employment opportunities.
We operate our services and run our activities from The Wellness Community Hub, our town centre location in Ridley Place, Newcastle.
We are proud to be working in partnership with other health, social and educational organisations, and in particular, excited for our new partnership with WEA (Workers’ Educational Association) providing courses, support sessions and activities help individuals develop and improve:
· Employability skills
· English Language through Esol
· Digital Skills
· Health & Wellbeing
· Confidence, social skills, and integration
· Skills and interests such as cooking, healthy eating, and sewing
· Health awareness for women
