Help Us Build A Cattery For Mando and Grogu!

If you have followed our sanctuary journey, you will know about our beloved feral cat residents, Mando and Grogu! They first came to us as completely feral cats, who lived in the wild and never had interactions with humans. Over the course of the last few years, we have seen them transform into cats who are more trusting, willing and comfortable with humans and in their life at the sanctuary. We have been able to foster a lifestyle where they can have space to be out and about at the sanctuary while creating a routine to keep them as safe as we can. 

However, Avian Flu (H5N1) is now posing a serious risk to cats in the US. This virus can be fatal and there are still many unknowns with the rate and severity of transmission. But since there have been positive cases in wild birds in our state recently, we are taking this risk very seriously, which means we are faced with a difficult but necessary decision to make big changes for their lifestyle. Their safety, as with all our residents, is our top priority at Fierce Roots Farm Sanctuary, so finding a way to honor their needs as still semi-feral cats while keeping them safe from this serious virus, is crucial. 

While they’ve come a long way from their feral beginnings, fully transitioning indoors to a space they have never seen, with new noises and interactions, would be too stressful and unnatural for them. This is where we came up with a creative, long-term solution for them: a beautiful, secure, outdoor cattery which will be connected to their cozy barn home!

Within the cattery we will have:

• A spacious, fully enclosed outdoor area connected to their existing home in the barn via a fun tunnel system. 

• Climbing posts, perches, and places to hide, nap, and explore

• Cat-safe plants and enriching features that mimic their outdoor life

This is more than a structure, it is a lifeline for Mando and Grogu. So we are bringing the outdoors to them!  It will allow them to continue living enriched, fulfilled lives safely in the heart of the sanctuary. 

But building this urgently needed space comes with a big, unexpected cost and that is where we need your support!
