Goal

Turkiye (formerly Turkey) and Syria were hit by the worst large-scale earthquake in history.

At 4:17 a.m. local time on Feb. 6, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck the city of Turkiye (formerly Turkey) and northwestern Syria. A series of tremors in the southern province of Turkiye and neighboring Syria has resulted in more than 3,800 deaths, 18,014 injuries, and more than 33,000 people displaced to date.

The death toll continues to rise with strong aftershocks that are still being felt today.

Two 7.8 and 7.5 magnitude temblors and more than 80 aftershocks have followed, and while the death toll continues to rise, the strong aftershocks have made search and rescue operations difficult. At least 4,748 buildings have collapsed since the quake, and more than 7,840 people need rescue and medical attention. While the destruction of roads and buildings has led to a number of deaths, many victims are still trapped in the rubble, especially as temperatures in some areas have dropped below freezing overnight, worsening the conditions of survivors and injured people trapped in the rubble.

Help the people of Turkiye (formerly Turkey)-Syria with Good Neighbors.

Good Neighbors quickly deployed an emergency relief response team and worked with partners to determine a $1 million emergency response for the people of Turkiye and Syria affected by the sudden earthquake.
We plan to provide emergency food, water, and sanitation supplies, as well as locally needed supplies such as blankets, sleeping bags, and tents, primarily in temporary shelters.

We ask for your support and prayers for the children and people of Turkiye and Syria who have lost their daily lives as a result of the sudden earthquake.

Emergency Relief Update

Good Neighbors has dispatched an emergency response team and is providing $1 million worth of emergency relief to those suffering from the sudden earthquake in Turkey and Syrian residents. Following the dispatch of Good Neighbors' emergency relief team, the following activities are underway, and the recovery status of Turkey and Syria will be shared through continuous status updates.

Activities underway:

  • Situation analysis through local investigations
  • On-site investigations are being conducted in Kahramanmaras, Gaziantep, Adana, Kilis, and Antakya.
  • Progress is being made in delivering relief supplies in cooperation with local organizations.

On-site emergency relief activities (first stage)

First, emergency food, water, hygiene supplies, and other emergency supplies were provided, including blankets, sleeping bags, and tents, as needed on-site, focusing on temporary shelters.

 1. Distributed 1,000 kits in the Kahramanmaras region.

 2. Purchased relief supplies through Istanbul and delivered them to affected areas.

 3. Distributed 6,918 tarpaulins (45m) and 20 tents (42sqm10 and 45sqm*10) from UNHRD.

 4. 8 tons of tents were transported through the movement of a military tank worth 150,000 USD (received by the Turkish government).

Participated in meetings through UN coordination.

1.In Turkey: Collaboration with relief organizations through government-led initiatives.

 2. In Syria: Participation in activities coordinated by UNOCHA and other UN-related organizations.

In addition to emergency relief supplies, we plan to carry out psychosocial support programs to help children and residents in affected areas regain their psychological stability. We plan to establish Child-Friendly Spaces (CFS) and implement PTSD early intervention programs to continue our efforts for children in Turkey and Syria who have lost their daily lives due to the sudden earthquake. We ask for your continued interest and support.
