Help the Mandrillus Project

Donate to protect mandrills and improve people well-being

Thank you for donating to the Mandrillus Project, a non-profit association.  Every donation means a lot: it helps sustaining the project and our long-term scientific protocols but it also helps protecting the mandrills and empowering people from local communities in Gabon.

The population we are studying is the only natural population of habituated individuals. Nowhere else in Africa can we get that close from those habituated animals. This means that nowhere else researchers can obtain such high-quality and individually-centered data: we know almost all the individuals of our study population since their birth!

Funds will help maintain our scientific activities.

The  Mandrillus Project constitutes an important local employer providing a  secured income for several (6-10) extended families, while unemployment  rate is very high in surroudings villages.

Funds will help us keep sustaining these families.

Funds received will allow to set-up, at a community-based level, a platform in the surrounding villages (Bakoumba, Bidoungui) for public awareness about the diversity of fauna present in the Gabonese forests. Emphasis will also be given to schoolchildren, and all members of our team will participate to public meetings in Gabon. Funds will further allow park rangers in their anti-poaching activities.

Funds will locally improve people's vision of mandrills.

We believe that locally empowered, resourced, and educated communities  can make a big difference for conservation and in the well-being of  mandrills and their habitats.
