Years after the conflict, thousands of Syrians continue to carry the invisible wounds of war.

Many survived detention, torture, and enforced disappearance. Others are mothers, fathers, wives, and children still searching for loved ones who never came home. Long after the violence has ended, the trauma remains—making it difficult to sleep, work, care for family, or simply feel safe again. 

Behind these statistics are people like Ahmad.

After years in detention, Ahmad returned home physically free—but emotionally trapped. Loud noises sent him into panic. Nightmares robbed him of sleep. He withdrew from his family and struggled to rebuild the life that had been taken from him.

When Ahmad reached MedGlobal's Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Center in Homs, he found more than treatment—he found hope. Through psychological counseling, psychiatric care, and ongoing support, he began to heal, reconnect with his loved ones, and look toward the future once again.

Thousands of others are still waiting for that same chance.

MedGlobal Is Still There

MedGlobal operates a specialized Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Center in Homs for survivors of detention and torture, families of missing persons, and individuals living with substance use disorders resulting from years of conflict and trauma. The center provides comprehensive, evidence-based care, including psychosocial support, psychological counseling, psychotherapy, psychiatric consultations, medication management, primary healthcare, and referrals to specialized services—all delivered by a multidisciplinary team. 

Since opening, the center has supported more than 780 survivors.

Today, more than 800 people remain on the waiting list, hoping for the opportunity to begin healing. 

Without continued support, many survivors will be left to face their trauma alone.
