St. Louis DSA passed a resolution at our March Chapter Meeting to formally partner with St. Louis COVID-19 Mutual Aid Support, a coalition of organizers and groups organized by Solidarity Economy to organize mutual aid efforts and financial aid, and St. Louis Quarantine Support, a related effort to deliver groceries to people who cannot risk being in public during the pandemic. As part of the resolution, StL DSA committed to raise $500 in the next month and match those funds with $500 in dues money, for a total of $1000 by the end of April. We only approved $500 in dues to be donated this month, so anything above that won't be matched, but check out our April monthly meeting on the 26th where members will decide how to use more of our organized dues money on mutual aid :)
100% of funds donated here will go to the St. Louis COVID-19 Mutual Aid Fund OR the grocery fund of St. Louis Quarantine Support.
As socialists, we know this capitalist economy is making the pandemic so much worse for working class people. And with the foundation of white supremacy, US capitalism is particularly damaging to Black and brown working class people. Because of our for-profit healthcare system and decades of attacks on public programs undermining the government's ability to function, we are facing a new Great Depression. Whether you are part of the working class that is working harder during this pandemic despite the threat of infection, or you've already been laid off or had hours cut, or you're "working from home" and worried whether you'll still have a job in two months, this pandemic has made it clear that we work for the profit of only a few, not the good of all. We deserve a better system.
In these times when our capitalist government isn't doing enough to take care of us, we've gotta pool our resources and redirect them to those who need them the most, while not losing sight of our long term goal: a democratically run economy and government that guarantees that allows everyone, regardless of race or ethnicity or citizenship or creed, to survive and thrive. We truly deserve not just bread, but roses.
Help StL DSA organize our money in solidarity with St. Louis working class people, and help us build our socialist future.
