From 120 Animals to a Destroyed Sanctuary: We Need Your Help to Rebuild

Two years ago, my world flipped upside down overnight.

I suddenly lost all the stable help I relied on to run our animal rescue. From one day to the next, I was left entirely alone to care for 120 cats and 10 dogs—all while balancing a full-time job and organizing a local market. 

Ever since that day, my life has been an relentless rollercoaster, and I am reaching my breaking point.

Fighting Against All Odds

With every ounce of strength I had left, I pushed forward. I managed to move the rescue to a new location in Cahuita. Through tireless effort, I reduced our numbers to 50 cats and 8 dogs—not because the need isn't out there, but simply because I physically and financially couldn't handle more.

Even when my body, my mind, and my bank account begged me to stop, I kept going.

I poured everything I had—every dollar from my own pocket, every spare second, and all my energy—into building a beautiful, safe sanctuary for these animals. And finally, it felt like the hard work was paying off. Just before a recent trip to Holland, I felt happy again. The rescue looked beautiful, help was finally arriving, and the workload was becoming manageable. For the first time in two years, I could breathe.

Then, Disaster Struck

After two years of agonizingly hard work, the unexpected happened. A massive storm hit Cahuita and destroyed everything we built. 😓

Because of shifting sand and storm damage, the enclosures no longer close properly, and the cats are escaping. We have only been at this new location for 4 months, and the sanctuary is now on the brink of total collapse.

Having funded this entire place out of my own pocket, I have nothing left to give.

How You Can Help Us Rebuild

Because our monthly running costs still exceed what we raise, it would take us 5 years to save enough to fix this on our own—time these animals simply do not have.
