Goal
Esp(a)ço is an anarchist social center founded in 2022 in the city of Porto Alegre, in the south of the lands occupied by the brazilian state. We organize activities such as debates, film screenings, workshops and also work as a mutual aid and solidarity hub in the city, through Apoio Mútuo, our free store. We're also starting to organize a library and kitchen at the social center.
We're launching this campaign to try and get regular supporters to help us foot our monthly expenses, so that we can keep Esp(a)ço running. So please become a monthly supporter or make a one-time donation.
About Esp(a)ço
Esp(a)ço opened in 2022. Still impacted by the isolation of the COVID pandemic, we felt the need for a space where we could meet and organize. We've organized film screenings, debates, workshops, and on May 13th 2023 we inaugurated Apoio Mútuo - a free store open for the community, where we receive donations and freely distribute them to the community.
During the 2024 severe floods in Rio Grande do Sul state, we made campaigns to support quilombola and indigenous communities with much needed supplies. We also coordinated a fundraiser to support three anarchist squats in the city: the queer squats Kaliça and Jiboia and the Território dos Mil Povos squat. We were also able to support the indigenous Mbya Guarani community during their land reclamation in the extreme south of Porto Alegre, fixing their boat's engine, buying an invertor and battery for their photovoltaic electric system, and a smartphone and laptop to improve their communication.
On early 2025, thieves broke in the social center four times in a row, taking even the copper wiring from inside the walls. We closed the social center for a while, but kept organizing activities in public spaces.
On January 2026, we got our new home!
And now, we want to do even more. And for that, we are once again counting on the community’s solidarity.
Why we need your help
Every month we have bills to pay: water, electricity, property tax, building fees - as well as other expenses such as cleaning supplies, maintenance, food, and transportation. And for this, we ask for the support of anyone who can commit to making monthly donations of any amount.
Our estimate for ESSENTIAL monthly expenses, the bare minimum we need to keep the doors open, are as follows:
- Water: U$12
- Electricity: U$26.5
- Land tax: U$11.2
- Building administration fee: U$16.25
- Cleaning supplies: U$10
And then we have other expenses that are needed to keep Esp(a)ço running: A maintenance fund to solve any infrastructure needs that may arise, and transportation and food support to make sure collective members can be at Esp(a)ço to open the doors.
- Maintenance: U$20
- Transportation: U$35
- Food: U$40
Ideally if we can get more funds we'll be able to provide collective members with financial aid so they can keep Esp(a)ço open at more times, instead of working their asses off to some capitalist scum.
So even if we meet our goal, if you are in a position to contribute more, please do. This will strengthen our collective, local anarchist infrastructure and our mutual aid initiatives.
