Thank you so much for taking the time to look at our fundraiser.
This fundraiser is to raise funds for a very special little lamb named Derek.
Derek came to us from the amazing guys at Coppershell sanctuary (please give them a follow and support their work)
When Derek came to us he was not able to use his hind legs and have very limited movement in one of his front legs.
After advice from our local farm vets we were not given any options apart from putting to sleep.
After fighting his corner our vets agreed to try and get us a referral and that is when Derek got a lifeline from one of Europe's top vet university's
Royal Veterinary College London (RVC) provide cutting-edge research in the veterinary and biological sciences, with a focus on improving animal health and welfare and we cannot tell you how thankful we were that they agreed to take on Derek.
After an two weeks stay at RVC Derek was diagnosed with vertebral bone infection (osteomyelitis) and returned back to us to continue his recovery.
After his medical treatment from the brilliant equine hospital, small animal neurology & physiotherapy departments that have given him that chance to get better by treating him as if he was a dog patient. He has had a ct scan, antibiotic treatment and has been cared for so well. His progress is going to be slow but already we can see he is stronger on his front legs from before he went to the hospital.
He is doing physio 3-4 times a day and is such a champ. He’s always up on the exercise ball with a smile.
He also does some ‘walking’ in a harness with support from us which he is keen to do when then is lamb feed involved! We will show you his physio sessions soon. Little Rupert is keeping him company 😊
His determination to get better and walk is what really has helped him get to this stage. His little face has never once said I want to give up.
We all just adore him and will give him everything he needs to hopefully one day build up the strength to stand and walk again.
Dereks recovery will require significant time and money and the aim of this fundraiser is to cover the costs of treatment, which has cost over £4000 to date, with Dereks initial stay with RVC costing over £3700.
Derek will be going for an updated ct scan soon and we expect to start hydrotherapy with him as well.
We knew Dereks recovery would cost thousands but we have to try for him.
Everyday he is getting stronger and we believe he will be there one day with the help of the vets, his carers and everyone who supports the work we do here.
Thank you to everyone who supports us so we can help animals like Derek 🐑
By donating to this fundraiser you will receive an email update on his progress.
