Benton's Story:
Benton, once a beloved pet, had become a neighborhood fixture, wandering from house to house for snacks and naps. However, one morning during his usual rounds, he was brutally attacked by a pack of stray dogs. Fortunately, a passerby intervened, scaring off the dogs and allowing Benton to escape, though he sustained severe injuries. Despite numerous neighbors being familiar with Benton, no one knew his true home. They all mentioned that their county Animal Control would euthanize him if called, and none could afford the necessary medical treatment. Consequently, Benton was surrendered to our local animal shelter as an injured stray. The animal shelter is not equipped to care for these severe life-threatening injuries and without any original owner to provide the care, we took immediate action to provide him with the life-saving medical care he desperately needed.

Benton Needs Your Help!
The dog mauling has left Benton permanently disfigured, with numerous puncture wounds and lacerations. He has lost both ears, and his doctors are working diligently to prevent sepsis. Benton faces a lengthy recovery from this brutal attack. He has already undergone two debridement surgeries, and his doctors anticipate another one or two more to prepare healthy tissue for a further extensive procedure. Once he is strong enough and has viable tissue around his injury sites, Benton will need lateral ear resection surgery on both sides of his head where his ears once were. The goal of this surgery is to keep his ear canals open so he can hear and expel earwax. Due to the necrotic tissue and an existing ear infection, he cannot undergo the surgery just yet. The medical team is ensuring proper drainage and monitoring him closely for any worsening of the ear infection, as there is a risk of developing meningitis. One side of Benton's neck injuries is so severe that his eyeball is visible through the exposed cavity where infected and dead tissue had to be removed.

His estimated cost of care including the debridement surgeries, hospital visits to monitor progress, and double lateral ear resection surgeries is $7500.

We acted quickly to help Benton because it was the right thing to do. However, as an organization with limited funds, the high cost of his medical care is overwhelming, and we cannot shoulder it alone. We need your support. Benton is doing the hard work of fighting; he needs our supporters to come together to ensure he can continue on his journey.
