Health Care Center
A majority of the students have no access to health care. For a variety of reasons parents do not or will not apply for Medicaid. Getting physicals for student athletes has been a nightmare as coaches ultimately have to take the kids to facilities and often pay for the physicals themselves so that their players are eligible to play sports. An onsite health care facility would provide physicals, diagnose and treat students and provide mental health care. In schools where health facilities exist, 75% of the patients come seeking mental health care. The health center would also be a valuable teaching tool for the Medical Academy, already a part of the Benson High curriculum.
