Heal My Heart

What is heartworm disease?

Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially fatal disease in pets in the United States and many other parts of the world. It is caused by foot-long worms (heartworms) that live in the heart, lungs and associated blood vessels of affected pets, causing severe lung disease, heart failure and damage to other organs in the body.

One-third of the dogs coming into Manatee County Animal Shelter are heartworm positive. Through our “Heal My Heart” campaign, we make sure that every heartworm positive dog at MCAW receives treatment while in the shelter or in foster care.   The “Heal My Heart” campaign also is educating people about heartworm prevention.  We are proud to fund the treatment to ensure these dogs can live long, healthy lives and find loving homes they deserve.

Your generous donations to “Heal my Heart “ helps us accomplish our goal of treating all heartworm positive dogs coming into the shelter.

The dogs thank you from the bottom of their HEARTS!
