Vermont Head Start Association Mission
Head Start services for children promote school readiness, and include early education, health, nutrition, mental health, and services for children with special needs. Services for parents promote family engagement, and include parent leadership and social service supports.
The Vermont Head Start Association mission is to support child development and early learning through:
- Professional development of the early care and learning workforce;
- Collaboration with our national, state and local partners; and
- Advocacy for high quality programs for children, birth to five-years- old, and their families.

A Range of Donation Options
You can choose to donate to support the VHSA mission to help to maintain and enhance the quality of Vermont’s Head Start and Early Head Start programs benefitting Vermont’s most vulnerable children and their families.
You can also choose to make a targeted donation to a specific, VHSA initiative, such as the Vermont Head Start Tooth Tutor Program. Head Start programs work with families to assure that children have a regular dentist, are up-to- date on dental exams, and receive any needed treatment for any identified dental health issues. Many Head Start programs encounter numerous challenges in this area, including concerns that children or parents may have about dental visits, families who do not always recognize the critical importance of early dental care for children, including baby teeth, and states such as Vermont which have a shortage of dentists. With the Tooth Tutor Program, Vermont’s Head Start programs contract with Registered Dental Hygienists (“Tooth Tutors”) who work intensively with children, families, and staff to promote positive oral health practices for Head Start / Early Head Start children and families.
The Tooth Tutor Program has helped to assure that many Vermont children in Head Start have received expedited care for dental exams and, in some cases, desperately needed oral treatment or surgery. Please click here to read about one of our tremendous success stories.
Thank you for investing in the health and success of Head Start children and families!
