Since its inception in 2014, our 501(c)(3) organization, Hacker Fund, has been the only accelerator in Los Angeles devoted to technology nonprofits. We empower technologists to create social change by providing them with educational resources, capacity-building services, and fiscal sponsorship. Our team is comprised of experts in product development, coworking space management, and fundraising. In our most recent cohort, we accelerated 10 nonprofit projects, including the largest organization for civic technology in Los Angeles, the first reproductive justice hackathon in Texas, and a nationwide computer science mentorship program that has served over 15,000 students. To date, we have used a decentralized approach to housing our 200+ members via partnerships with coworking spaces, city-funded venues, and pop-up coworking companies. In doing so, we have made social entrepreneurship in the nonprofit sector more accessible.
